Dreamscape

Wish dreams were softly draped in strands like cultured pearls,

rather than fragments seen through a cracked mirror,

broken bits and pieces of memories,

sojourns to unfamiliar places,

images tossed about on scattered seas,

thoughts like tumbleweeds,

repeating over and over again.

This was a one-sentence exercise. It’s liberating to write a stream of thought… let if flow and see where it goes. Give it a try and add yours to the comment section.

I love the imagery, and the images from your exercise. Beautifully written. This piece has classic charm, and carries with it vivid recollection of the readers dreamlife. If you ever compile a book of your prose and poetry this should be in it!

  2. Lee Erickson says:

Thank you, Effie! I’d love to read one of your one-sentence poems some time.

  3. Bethe Forcia says:

    ocean waves
    wash my soul
    cleanse me of your smile

    and the memory of
    ten fingers
    entwined forever
    in a hopeless wish

  4. Effie says:

Sparkling eyes capture my heart in rapture,
little hands reach out for an embrace,
little babbles beckon for a kiss,
an exchange of respect – pure and simple –
and ours souls meld in the middle.

  5. Lee Erickson says:

Bethe and Effie, thank you for sharing your one-sentence poems.

Sometimes it seems overwhelming to wrap one’s head around thoughts and feelings with hopes of expressing them in writing.

You both have demonstrated how one=sentence writing is liberating… a wonderful way to express ones self with a single sweep of well-chosen words. Well done!
